PC Security

Apart from having to deal with the scammers in HYIPland, there is also the threat of your PC being infected with viruses, spyware, adware, keyloggers, trojans and other forms of malware which could compromise your safety. Here are some security basics to protect your PC.

Keep Windows Updated
If you are using Windows, make sure that you have installed all the critical updates for your operating system. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS. You should be running Windows XP SP2 if your PC supports it.

Make sure you have an anti-virus software and keep it updated on a daily basis. Run scans at least once a month. Here are some good free ones, choose only one :

* Avast! Home Edition
* AVG Free Edition
* AntiVir Personal Edition

Firewalls act as a barrier between the PC and the internet. The Windows XP firewall isn't adequate because it only provides inbound protection. A popular free firewall is ZoneAlarm. ZoneAlarm is very light on system resources and does an excellent job blocking intrusions.

Spyware Scanner/Removal and Prevention
Malicious Software or malware can do major damages to the system. Notorious malwares like CoolWebSearch are very hard to remove and are not detected or completely removed by the anti-viruses. This is where anti-spyware comes into place. Unlike anti-virus, it’s better to have more than one anti-spyware. In fact, I recommend you download all of the programs below :

# Ad-Aware SE Personal
# Microsoft Windows Defender(Beta 2)
# SpyBot-Search & Destroy
# Spyware Blaster
# Spyware Guard

Web Browser
Internet Explorer has too many vulnerabilities and security holes which malwares could easily exploit. Switch to Mozilla Firefox.

SnoopFree Privacy Shield is a useful tool which notifies you each time a program tries to hook your keyboard, read your screen or read an unowned window.

Use a secure email like Safe-Mail. Then use 1 e-mail account for e-gold only and another for your HYIP's. This way it is more difficult for someone to hack into your e-gold account.

- Make sure your e-gold settings are set at the maximum level. The default setting for e-gold isn't sufficient. Set the IP address detection to high. Use the SRK to log-in your account.
- Use different passwords for all your sites. Use strong passwords with at least 8 characters in length. Use both letters and numbers. Change your password regularly.
- Practice safe surfing. Do not click on attachments from an unknown e-mail address or visit dubious websites.
